Walking Hadleigh's Bridges

Start in Station Road at the beginning of the Railway Walk and continue for several hundred yards to the bridge over Hook Lane. Go down the near side of the bridge and walk down the lane to the Layham Road. Turn left for about 150 yards to a FP sign right.

Climb the stile and cross a narrow meadow to a footbridge over the Brett. Go diagonally right to a stile in the corner. Cross this and the one straight ahead and continue with the sewage farm on your right to the Lower Layham Road.

Turn right toward the town and take the first road (150 yards) to the sewage farm on your right. Climb the wooden fence and cross the bridge. Cross the narrow meadow and over three more stiles to reach Benton Street (building supply yard was on your right).

Turn left along Benton Street to Tinker's Lane. Turn left down the lane to the footbridge over the Brett. Pass the Mill Pool and reach Toppesfield Bridge - but do not cross yet!

Continue upstream, not on the river walk but on the field edge with the trees of the river walk on your right and continue to Cork Lane at the end of which cross the footbridge to Babergh car park.

Double back over the Metal Bridge to Cork Lane. Now you can take the River Walk back to Toppesfield Bridge, which you cross and return to the starting point.

Gluttons for punishment who don't mind traffic could work out how to include the Mill bridge at Layham and the Aldham Mill bridge too!
