Hadleigh Bowling Club, situated in Magdalen Road, Hadleigh, Suffolk is possibly one of the ten oldest Bowling Clubs in the country, the green having been laid in 1754. Mr. John Ward, the landlord of the White Lion Hotel, founded the club and the green is still on the same site today. The club bought the freehold in November 1990 from the brewers Brent Walker and today the club is a flourishing organisation. Hadleigh Bowling Club is renowned throughout the county as one of the most friendly club s and visitors can be sure of a warm welcome. ![]() The club has about 100 playing members and 40 social members. Hadleigh men play in E.B.A. triples leagues and the ladies who are affiliated to the E.W.B.A. join the men in the Mixed Fours and Mixed Triples leagues. In addition to the leagues the members take part in the County and Club Competitions and a number of friendly fixtures throughout the season. The Club Social Committee organises many social activities such as coffee mornings, Sunday lunches, cheese and wine parties and fish dinners, and Carpet Bowls is held in the clubhouse fortnightly during the winter months. The bar is open on every occasion. The members are looking forward to celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Club in the year 2004.
