The season of 1999/2000 has been another successful year for the members of Hadleigh's determined hockey team. Despite injuries and a limited number of players, Hadleigh Ladies have shown that it is quality not quantity that gets results. It was Hadleigh's second season in the Premiership League, the league below the regional super leagues. Playing against clubs with enough members for 3 or 4 teams, Hadleigh battled to a very respectable 8th place in the table at the end of the season. ![]() The team's confidence has grown as the season progressed, partly as a result of the coaching from Ipswich Ladies' Sarah Juggins. "I am really pleased with Hadleigh's results this season and I am very much looking forward to next season. Their commitment and determination has earned them a well deserved position in the league," Sarah commented. However, the club is always on the lookout for new talent, so if you have just moved to the area and you want to meet a good crowd, or just found your old school stick in the loft and fancy putting it to good use, the team would love to hear from you. With players ranging from 13-50 there is no need to worry about your age. A good opportunity to give us a try is in the forthcoming summer league, so if you are interested, contact Paula Tennent on 01473 824404 (evenings). The committee would be particularly keen to hear from goalies looking for a new team, as owing to other commitments, the team's current goalie is unable to play next season. 1st Team Captain Liane Miles said of Ally Jarvis, Hadleigh's goalie: "She has played a tremendous role this season, helping to keep our goal difference against to a minimum in the league." It is not just hockey and team spirit in the club, but off pitch socialising too. Social events include the annual Cheese and Wine Evening, Christmas and End of Season 'do'. Plus participation in Hadleigh's carnival and the odd trip to Amsterdam!! Finally, the club would like to thank Ivans for supplying the oranges for all the home matches, Abbotts for their sponsorship and all of the other local shops and businesses which have helped support the club over the last season. As a small local team and with the increasing costs of training and playing on Astroturf pitches, funds are always very tight, so all support is very much appreciated. |
